My name is Shannon Murphy, LCSW, and I have extensive experience working with individuals facing developmental and intellectual disabilities, autism, grief, loss and bereavement, trauma, a variety of mental health disorders, and substance use disorders.
In my therapeutic practice, I value recognizing the client as the expert of their own experience, meeting them at their current stage in the healing process, wherever that may be. My approach is client-centered, employing evidence-based practices to empower clients to find their voice and acknowledge their resilience. I engage with my clients in a manner filled with empathy and open-mindedness, utilizing a strengths-based perspective to create a therapeutic environment that encourages growth and healing on their journey of self-improvement.
The support I have received from others has inspired my entry into this field, fueling my passion for helping those who may be struggling. I aim to empower individuals to discover their inner strength and build resilience to navigate life’s challenges.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Keuka College, followed by a Master’s in Social Work from Roberts Wesleyan College. Currently, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with additional training and certifications in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and Functional Family Therapy.
Outside of work, I have a deep appreciation for the outdoors. I enjoy gardening, homesteading (I’m particularly fond of my chickens), spending time in nature, hiking, kayaking, and exploring the stunning Finger Lakes region where I reside, as well as attending live music events and concerts.
