Hello! My name is Katie Strang, LMSW. Through my experience working with a range of clients dealing with a variety of issues of all ages, I realized my passion is working with children and adolescents with anxiety, behavioral issues and working with caregivers to support their children. As a therapist, I spend an hour a week with a child, caregivers spend enormously more time with their children, so helping them respond therapeutically to their child on a day to day basis has a much, much larger impact than an individual therapy session.
During college I worked in residential care for children and adolescents with severe mental health and developmental disabilities. Between college and graduate school I worked in community based care for children and adolescents with mental health issues. During graduate school I did 2 internships in infant and early childhood mental health.I value collaborating with all family members and strengthening natural support. I see the client and their family as experts on themselves and their lives, and myself as the expert on therapeutic techniques. I want clients to feel safe and supported enough to take the brave step of trying to do things differently. I value having clear goals and benchmarks to determine whether treatment is working or whether we need to adjust the plan to make it more effective. I value Evidence -Based Therapy and Empirically Supported Therapies. I am also certified in Parent Child Interaction Therapy and completed an 18 month training program in Dialectic Behavioral Therapy.
A bit about me: I was born and raised in Pittsford, New York and attended Pittsford Sutherland High School. I enjoy hiking, crocheting (particularly stuffed animals and amigurumi), and reading. I was a foster parent for several years in Cayuga County
