Hello! My name is Anita Aasen, LCSW. Making the first step towards personal healing and growth can be a difficult and intimidating process. Through my experience in diverse social work environments providing support to individuals coping with grief, anxiety, and depression, I have found great success in helping those overcome these struggles. Additionally, I have assisted trauma survivors, rape victims, and individuals with PTSD. Moreover, I have worked closely with family members of individuals with mental illness and those who have experienced completed suicides. My dedication lies in assisting clients who are navigating through the challenges of grief and loss. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals of all ages, as well as with couples and families.
I utilize modalities such as ACT, CBT, DBT, positive psychology, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing to help guide clients through their healing. I have a relaxed and person-centered approach to my style, placing great importance on the human connection in therapy. I firmly believe that therapy takes place in the space between the therapist and the client and that it is the result of the bond between them. I strive to provide a safe environment where individuals can freely vent, share their emotions, shed tears if necessary, and express anger without worrying about being judged.
I myself have gone through mental health struggles stemming from an alcoholic and abusive father and dealing with the grief and loss during the death of my mother to cancer at age 19. I entered therapy for the first time to process the grief and depression and witnessing the resilience of the human spirit firsthand, particularly within myself, has solidified my belief in its strength. It was because of these hardships and experiences that I became a social worker to help others work through their hardships as well.
A lifelong dream of mine was to write a book. After the loss of my brother, and participating in grief work, I was able to do so. Titled “From Grief to Grace: A Therapist’s Journey of Healing After Loss,” I have created a guide for navigating grief after loss. By sharing my story from both a therapeutic approach and a personal perspective, I encourage my readers to transform their pain into resilience and purpose.
