Hello! My name is Amy Lyons, LCAT. Through working with a variety of clients in previous jobs, from 3 year olds to 70 year olds, I have grew a passion for helping those going through anxiety,, depression, ADHD, and trauma. Being a creative arts therapist and someone who has a background in art and graphic design, I heavily incorporate art into my therapy style along with DBT, play therapy, motivational interviewing, solution/person centered, mindfulness, and TF-CBT modalities.
I prefer to meet a client and really try not to think of people in terms of their mental health history or diagnosis.I feel that making a connection with people is the most important part of therapy. I always want a client to feel heard, respected, cared for and validated. I like to feel comfortable and as non-clinical (comfortable chairs, lamps instead of florescent lighting) as possible.
A bit about me. I was born and raised in Rochester, NY. Art was always something my parents encouraged. After college, I worked as a graphic designer at a local TV station. Courtroom sketching was part of my job which was very interesting! I returned to college in my mid-30s to get my masters degree in art therapy and it was life changing. I also like to walk, (sometimes run if I feel up to it) kayak, bike ride, garden, knit, sew, and cooking/baking.
